In TEC we assure
that students practise the four skills: speaking, listening, reading and
writing, so as to acquire the necessary abilities to be completely
communicative. This is done through a communicative approach which will be
developed by means of a variety of activities which are related to real life
scenes such as include role-plays and dramatization of real life situations
together with different speaking activities of different types such as debates
so that students get communicatively involved and get used to real life
circumstances. This way, students will have an active role in the classroom and
will integrate the language in the classroom context at the same time as they
communicate their ideas and opinions to their classmates. We believe that this
way, students get used to using the language for every day life.
Moreover,
it is important to remember that a language is not only spoken, but it also
written; for this, students will deal with all the necessary grammar structures
as well as useful vocabulary which will be the base for them to speak correctly
in any situation. Students will also get involved in the writing of different
written tasks ( formal/informal letter, articles, opinion essays, reports,… )
which means they will control linking words, connectors and other written
formulae that will enable them to write coherent an cohesive texts.
Since we
are dealing with English as a second language, we try to encourage our students
to use the language strategies that they use in their native language (
paraphrasing, circumlocution,… ); all of them are basic at the first stages and
throughout the whole process of language learning.
Last but
not least, the use of real material, such as podcasts, songs, films, tv
serials, is highly encouraged. Trough them, students attain not only language
skills but also sociocultural aspects of the language, which are an integral
part of any language learning.
